What food do you serve?

Asian-American sandwiches, grain bowls, and salads. 

What should I try?

Everything! Our favorites are the Korean Fried Chicken, Shrimp Po' Boy, and Crispy Pork Belly. 

Who are you?

Red Star Sandwich Shop is owned and operated by brothers Gibson and Johnson Ho. 

Executive chef / co-owner Gibson started his cooking career at the French Culinary Institute (now the International Culinary Center). After graduation, Gibson trained at Manzo (Eataly) and Ippudo NY. He is also an alum of Momofuku Ko and Landhaus.

General manager / co-owner Johnson attended the University of Michigan Law School and practiced corporate law before starting Red Star.

Both are born in New York, raised in Chinatown and New Jersey, and currently live in Brooklyn and Queens, respectively.

Where is your bread from? 

Our bread is baked fresh daily from Caputo Bakery, a five-generation Italian bakery in Carroll Gardens. Our heroes are hand-crafted and custom-made for our sandwiches.

Do you have any lunch specials?

We offer a small wonton soup with any sandwich or salad for $1.00 every day, lunch or dinner (dine-in only). We also carry loyalty cards: 5 sandwiches get you a free side, and the 10th sandwich is on us!

Do you offer gluten-free options?

Many of our grain bowls and salads, including the Korean Fried Tofu ,General Tso's Tofu, Miso BLT, Crispy Pork Belly, and Curry Cauliflower, are gluten-free. We do not currently carry gluten-free bread. 

What vegetarian options do you offer?

The Korean Fried Tofu ,General Tso's Tofu, Curry Cauliflower, and Grilled Cheese are vegetarian. Many of our side items are also vegetarian-friendly. The Korean Fried Tofu, General Tso's Tofu, and Curry Cauliflower are also vegan. 

Do you offer anything other than sandwiches? 

All our sandwiches are available as grain bowls or salads, and we offer several sides and soup! Please see our menu.

What is in a grain bowl? 

Our grain bowls include the main protein or vegetable, a combination of brown rice, wild rice, and quinoa, fried onion, roasted nori, and a side of homemade kimchi.

What's the story behind the name Red Star?

Red Star is named after the small restaurant equipment and supply business the owners' family ran on Bowery Street until 2014. For 30 years, R-S Restaurant Equipment & Supply equipped and constructed hundred of restaurants in New York City. 

Do you take reservations?

We don't take reservations. If you plan on visiting with a large party, please call us at 718-935-1999 and we can tell you when we are typically the busiest and try our best to accomodate your party.  

Do you cater?

Yes. Please contact us at 718-935-1999 or our catering page to discuss standard and off-menu catering options. 

Do you deliver?

Yes. You can order directly from our website here. Our delivery zone covers Henry St. (west) to Bond St. (east), and Joralemon St. / Fulton St. (north) to 2nd Pl / 3rd St. (south). See map.

Do you host private events?

Yes. Please contact us at 718-935-1999 or contact@redstarbk.com to discuss availability. 

Do you serve alcohol?

We carry a selection of beers and wine. Sangria is available every Friday evening and weekends. Join us for happy hour every night (including weekends) between 5pm and 8pm! We now deliver beer through our website, as long as your order also contains food. You must be at least 21 years old. 

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes. You can purchase gift certificates in store.
